LIVE Oct. 2026: Early Intervention Officials - Course 1: Role, Responsibilities, and the EI Steps

Description
Presented live (real-time) in a virtual format:
October 14, 2026 (Wednesday), 9:00am-11:30am AND
October 15, 2026 (Thursday), 9:00am - 12:00pm (Noon)

Early Intervention Officials (EIOs) and Managers (EIMs) fulfill a critical role in New York State’s Early Intervention Program (EIP). From the moment a child is referred, through their transition out of the program, EIOs carry out regulatory and administrative responsibilities that help infants, toddlers, and their families move toward improved outcomes. This course gives EIOs and EIMs a foundational understanding of the EIP process and of the EIO’s role and regulatory responsibilities at each step: referral, assignment of an initial service coordinator, evaluation and eligibility determination, Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) development and reviews, service delivery, and transition out of the EIP.

This course will be presented live on October 14 and 15 then later recorded in a self-paced format. It is designed for EIOs and EIMs who are newer to the EIP, but EIOs and EIMs of all experience levels, as well as other interested EI professionals, are welcome to attend. Live participants are invited to share their feedback to help improve content of the recorded version.

This course is the first of two new courses focused on EIO responsibilities. Course 1 (Oct. 14 and 15) walks through the early intervention steps--from referral to transition out of the EIP--highlighting the EIO role and responsibilities at each step. Course 2 (slated for mid-November) will look at the EIO’s role in local administration of the EIP, procedural safeguards, and annual reporting requirements.

This live online class series will be facilitated by Rusty Kindlon and Deidre Romanski of the New York State Early Intervention Program Online Professional Development Center (NYSEIPOPDC) and will train participants together in one “virtual classroom.” Space for the live course is limited.

After completing both live online training sessions (Oct. 14 and 15) in their entirety and submitting the post-course evaluation survey, a certificate of completion will be available for you to download. We suggest that you print and retain a copy of the certificate for your records. The certificate of completion will provide hours toward the 10-hour annual requirement for ongoing professional development, as stated in the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Early Intervention Provider Agreement. Should you miss any portion of either of the live training sessions, you will not receive a certificate of completion. (This refers to the Oct. 14 and 15 sessions only: Course 2, which is slated for mid-November, is not required in order to receive credit for Course 1.)
